Please tell us about yourself…family, education…
My name is Success Chinemerem Onuoha. I am the first child of my family. Growing up I wanted to study Medicine and Surgery, a part of me is still very much interested in human health and wellbeing. I studied Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
How did YouSplashDecors come to be?
Yousplashdecors was birthed in my final year at school. A friend shared a picture with me during my project. He said he thought I could do something with it. I was exhausted from project research, albino rats and all; so I decided to research something else. I took the picture and started on google and youtube, to find the name of the product.
I succeeded, I found the name but the product wasn’t in the Nigerian market and hence the raw materials were not available here. However, I persisted and on the creation of the first products, the love was so much I immediately registered the business at CAC. Registering Yousplashdecors was one of the best decisions I ever made for the business.
What was your greatest fear in starting out this business?
My greatest fear was the market, I had no business history by studies or physical presence. I didn’t know one thing about running a business. Another fear was the availability of durable raw materials for work. However, we have come this far, those fears have given way for Success.
How do you handle marketing your creations?
I market my creations online. I have my business listed on strategic platforms
What are your hobbies?
I love to read extensively, I love loud music and the beach. So a moment at the beach with music at a distance and a book in my hand is my ideal hobby.
If not YouSplashDecors, what else?
Community wellbeing, I volunteer with two organizations, professionally; Girl Hub Africa and Stay in School Nigeria. Also, I surf the internet a whole lot. I am a freelance writer, developing brand strategy, managing WordPress accounts, as long as I can offer my expertise from my location; I’m always eager to take up the role.
Please share one high and low moment in this entrepreneurial journey and the lesson(s) learned from them?
The high moment was when I got a request for 6ft by 6ft rugs, two of that; what was most remarkable was that the order came from a complete stranger, no referrals, she just came across my page, loved what she saw and requested for it. It encouraged me greatly because that meant I was doing something right and had established some level of trust with my audience.
The lowest moment was with raw materials, I had some really life-shifting moments with finding raw materials for Yousplashdecors products.
A favorite quote/ something you’d like to share with the readers.
“Try again, just one more time”. The journey to growth has lots of broken moments, tears, alone moments, moments of disbelief; I learned to encourage myself and I’d tell every reader “encourage yourself”.
